Down payment help is out there. Let's find what fits you.
Dozens of down payment and closing cost assistance programs can apply to homes in the Richmond area, run by state agencies, local governments, nonprofits and lenders. This free check shows which ones may match the home you want and your situation, and then I'll help you make sense of them.

How it works
- Answer a few questions. Where you're looking, a price range, and the household details programs set their limits by. It takes about 2 minutes.
- See what may fit. The check counts the assistance programs that may match the home and your situation.
- Request the details. Ask for details and Down Payment Resource sends them to you and lets me know. I'll follow up to talk through the programs, what they ask of you, and which lenders offer them.
The questions about income and household size are asked and answered on Down Payment Resource's site, because that's how programs set their limits. This site never sees or stores your answers.
The kinds of help you might see
Grants
Money toward your down payment or closing costs that you don't repay, usually with income and price limits.
Forgivable second mortgages
A second loan that's forgiven over time if you keep living in the home. Sell or refinance early and some or all may be due.
Deferred second mortgages
A second loan with no monthly payment, repaid when you sell, refinance or pay off the first mortgage.
Closing cost help
Assistance aimed at lender fees, prepaid taxes and insurance rather than the down payment itself.
Shared-equity and land trust homes
A lower purchase price in exchange for limits on resale, keeping the home affordable for the next buyer.
Most programs set limits on income, purchase price or the area, and many require a certified homebuyer education course before closing. Some can be combined, some can't. Exploring NACA instead? That's a separate path, covered in the free NACA intro session.
Good to know before you rely on it
- A match is a starting point, not an approval. The program and your lender make the decision.
- Not every lender offers every program, so ask any lender you talk to which ones they work with.
- Assistance changes what you owe and when. Read the repayment and resale terms before you commit.
- Funding comes and goes. A program that's open today can pause when its money runs out.

The eligibility check runs on Down Payment Resource's website, under its own privacy policy and terms. Results are informational only. They aren't an application for assistance or a loan, and they aren't a promise that you qualify. Each program's administrator sets its own rules, funding and eligibility, and these can change. Not every lender offers every program. Martin Kurylowski and Real Broker, LLC are not mortgage lenders or administrators of any assistance program.
